The exact SSL installation process depends on your hosting environment, control panel and certificate type.
Before you start
You may need the following:
- The domain name
- The SSL certificate
- The private key
- The certificate chain or CA bundle
- Access to the hosting control panel or server
Automatic SSL
Some hosting services support automatic SSL installation.
If AutoSSL or a similar feature is available, the system may issue and install a supported certificate automatically.
Installing SSL in cPanel
If manual installation is required:
1. Log in to cPanel.
2. Open the Security section.
3. Open SSL/TLS.
4. Locate the option for managing SSL sites or installing an SSL certificate.
5. Select the domain.
6. Enter or paste the certificate information.
7. Enter the matching private key.
8. Add the certificate chain or CA bundle if required.
9. Complete the installation.
After installation
Open the website using:
https://yourdomain.com
Check that the website loads correctly over HTTPS.
You should also verify that:
- The certificate matches the domain.
- The certificate has not expired.
- The browser does not show certificate warnings.
- Website resources are loading over HTTPS.
Mixed content
A website may still show security warnings if some images, scripts, stylesheets or other resources are loaded using HTTP.
These links may need to be updated to HTTPS.
Important
Never share your private key with unauthorized users.
The private key must match the SSL certificate being installed.
